Saito's just such a compelling character. I love how he sits so strangely on a moral scale. A business tycoon, but wanting to "break a monopoly" rather than simply take out the competition. Listens to the snitch, then offers him up first to Cobb, then to Cobol. I'd love to see fic that looks at his wobbly moral line, how far he'd go to accomplish goals, or else what is too far, or how he came to be the way he is. Would SUPER love to see him being Part of the Team, and I have a soft spot for his canon interactions with Eames. Saito/Eames or Saito & Eames is not necessary, but I'd be happy to see it : ) I'm also very interested in his life outside the film: his company, his love life, his childhood, etc.

Whether you write a getting together fic, or Evy/Rick & Ardeth learning to be Evy/Rick/Ardeth, or youre exploring it as an established relationship, I'll be happy so long as all three are mutally obsessed with each other!

They just have such an excellent dynamic, which is silly bc I think it's best explained by Matt Damon trying to defend Danny to the crew but it's Rusty everyone goes to for help. The scene in O12 where they watch TV and drink wine together? Flawless. Rusty picking up Danny from jail? Hell yeah. They're casual but also ride or die in way I find so compelling, bc my usual ship dynamic is Mutually Obsessed And Completely Abnormal About It, but these two are so... chill. They trust each other even if they don't always agree with each other (both making mistakes over a girl smh) and they back each other's plays. Let me be cringe for a moment but they are 100% moirails with pails.

Note on the Wives: If choosing a setting AU, feel free to have the boys never get with the girls to begin with. If diverting canon at a point after either of them would have gotten with the girls, please don't pretend they don't exist or have them break up for contrived reasons. You can gloss over or imply it or whatever, but I'd prefer the girls be in the know about Rusty/Danny and there's trust and love involved in the arrangement :o)

jacobi & maxwell (& outside jacobi): what i like about these two is their weird, super intertwined relationship. they have molded themselves into two parts of the same whole, they work perfectly together, have been each others comfort for years, theyre always together and theyre best friends and they dont need anyone else. they would and have killed for each other. they are each others’ number one, always. and i LOVE that. + i think they're interesting characters! i like characters that kind of suck!

OG crew, final crew, final crew + maxwell: i like the nice, relatively normal friendships that arise out of terrible circumstances, and i also like the tension with hilbert or the si-5 group! would loveeee to see them resolving their differences or see those differences making tensions and distance worse and worse. yay! i like every character in w359 so feel free to include others as well

break canon + make it worse: applies anywhere. make it worse! hooray! just a bit worse or catastrophic are both fine by me!
character death averted/replaced: i am mainly thinking of maxwell for this one, i was soo sad when she died! but also feel free to make hilbert live! prisoner!maxwell seems especially fun :D and outside!jacobi as well, i'd just like to see how that would go
character that lived dies: awesome for any character but especially switching maxwell & jacobi... how does that go? jacobi or maxwell need not be present for their relationship tag to be fulfilled, feel free to just have it focus on their relationship while one is dead. espeeeecially if outside!jacobi is included and lives while regular jacobi dies
different first meeting: for any characters, would just like to see them knowing each other beforehand or in a different way
everybody lives: happy ending for everyone!! hooray!! would like to see eiffel not lose his memory for this
amnesiac: this would just be such a fun situation to explore imo
eldritch horror(s): any character! could also mean them being listener clones :D
time travel: for all of these i just think it would be interesting for a character to go back after the end of canon - or maybe a worse end - and try to fix things. or make things work in their own/their side's favor! happy also for this to be from the POV of a character who's traveled back from a worse AU and the better ending they get is canon. would just be a very interesting re-framing of canon events!
sci-fi horror or gladiator au: a different type of sci-fi from canon would be super fun!! would love to see them as aliens or something, or in an alien (movie) type setting, or something... really go crazy with this one
small-town: i think things would go very badly if these characters were trapped in a small town with Something Bad happening. fun parallel to being on a little space station in canon?
superhero/villain au: i just really love these types of aus. the typical tropes, totally different tropes, seriously anything! hooray! teams of superheroes/villains maybe being the different groups? from the POV of an uninvolved character seeing all the crazy stuff and getting caught up? go crazy
make it worse: literally any canon event. MAKE IT WORSE!!!!
time loop: truly i would love to see any character having the fate of everybody or their friends rest on their shoulders, but particularly: minkowski, lovelace, hera, eiffel, or jacobi. awesome for any point in canon but especially the end or near the end. the worse the better! i love to see characters feeling horribly guilty! hooray!

ilyukhina + rocky: i just really think the idea of ilyukhina being the one to survive is fun! i think they would have a really interesting dynamic. + it would be hard figuring out all the taumoeba stuff without grace! how would they solve it all? how would they get along? i'd love to see your take!

grace + ilyukhina: would love to see pre-leaving earth more of how they interact, or ilyukhina surviving and they get to work together!

grace, ilyukhina, rocky, + yáo: it would be awesome to see the whole team surviving and how well they'd do with all of them, + tensions that would arise, + resource shortages, etc etc... how does that affect things? is there even a possibility for the PHM crew to go to erid or earth? can just one of them go, and how would they decide that? is rocky a bit jealous of this crew that all survived? how devastated would he be at the loss/death of all three?

grace + rocky: THE BEST FRIENDS EVER!!!!!!!! they are so special to me. i love them so much. the way they would do anything for each other. the way they want sooooo badly to save each other AND THEY SUCCEED!! their shared isolation... 'you're a good human...' the way they adapt their spaces so that they can be together... learning each others languages... theyre life partners theyre besties they saved each others lives they saved each others whole species. crushes them with my fist

grace + his students: he cares so much about them!!! i would love to see any of them as kids or adults and how they see/think of canon events. the 'kids retelling canon' was what i was thinking of for them, although they wouldn't be kids anymore, but i'd like to see their kids/students/baby cousins/whatever hearing the story from them and then retelling it wrong. ESPECIALLY if it is an AU - i'd love to see the au details emerge through the lens of little kids telling it wrong!

character survives: for any of them! injury could be something coma-related or something else, and would also just love to see things go well and a character or multiple live :D also would be very cool with one of rocky's crew, and only grace survives from the phm

for want of a nail: honestly anything here, just would love to see the spiraling effects of some small difference

long-term injury: i'm thinking of grace + rocky's unfortunate adventures with pressure and atmosphere and such, but also feel free to apply this to other situations/combine with other AUs!

ghosts: literally any of these pairings/relationships would be so so fun if you add some ghosts to the mix

canon survival dies: kill off grace or rocky, hooray! how does that spiral? do they make sure the other's planet is still saved? do they ever stop thinking, maybe i could have saved him? what is it like to return home alone? i <3 grief!! also awesome for ilyukhina survives instead au!

dimension hopping: kind of thinking maybe the PHM is, instead of looking for how tau ceti survives, looking for dimensions that survived the astrophage infestation, or something? could get really crazy with this

sci-fi horror: would love to see characters trying to survive an awful horror scenario of your choosing out in space!

make it worse: speaks for itself. any canon event!

time loop/time travel: any character trying to fix something is awesome. would particularly like to see rocky or ilyukhina being the time traveling/time looped ones!

non-evolved astrophage: how does grace's original plan pan out? how does rocky do back on erid?

solo gerry: oh gerry i LOVE gerry. alive, dead, vaguely canon-compliant, something completely off the canon path. i'd love to see something tragic, something bittersweet, something nice and mostly fluffy, really ANYTHING with gerry. he is such a fascinating character to me, how he dips in and out of statements and doesn't get to tell his own story until after he's dead. how he came out of a family that's so uncaring of who gets hurt, and tries his best to save people. how he never seemed to take a moment for himself. the way he seemed like he felt doomed to an unhappy life and death from the beginning

jon + gerry: i so wanted to see more of their dynamic together rather than just jon chasing clues about him and eventually meeting the very sad remnants of him! i'd love to see either of them helping the other, or working together in the archives, or gerry as a ghost (non-book-related) that kind of just Is There, or just meeting earlier and gerry still dies, i really really just love these two and want to see them interact!

gerry + danny + tim: i think these three could be really good friends. i'd love to see an au where all three survive (or gerry + danny do, and tim dies similar to canon - i'd love to see the fallout of that - whether he stays dead-dead or comes back as a ghost). especially i'd love an au where gerry saves danny from the circus! i'd love love love to see your take on how these three interact. also very down for tim + gerry not liking each other very much - i can see them clashing for sure! i just love the idea of these three knowing each other!

specific AU prompts:

avatar!gerry: really want to see him as a full-blown avatar! at any point in canon, replacing his death, anything! my fave entities are vast and spiral but any of them would be so interesting to explore with gerry

danny/gerry/tim lives: pretty much what i said above for tim or danny. for gerry i'd also love to see him living his life if he were to survive (or become an avatar)! does he just keep saving people? come back to gertrude? try to settle down and forget about everything?! something else?

diff avatar jon, somewhere else, apocalypse time-travel: pretty much exactly what it says

death faked/replaced by injury: i'd like to see this with gerry or danny or tim! for gerry i'd especially love to see his death replaced with a brain injury/brain damage and the recovery process from that or the long-term effects. i can easily see him faking his death too, to escape from... everything

alt timelines bleeding: i'm thinking canon + an au featuring one of the relationships/characters but i am really down for anything with this!

a there for b's event: for this i am envisioning gerry there to save danny BUT i am really down for any interpretation of this one, i think any combo of a + b here is interesting really

ghosts: any of the canon dead characters as a ghost sounds very very fun! or you can also kill jon! yay! i love ghost AUs

kidnapped: 'raised by enemy' in this case could be gerry raised by someone normal. or, like, the lightless flame. or jon raised by an avatar (mary? elias?) - i've seen this type of au before and really enjoy it!

non-canon interaction: goes for any of these relationships. very happy for canon-but-one-different-interaction here! certainly none of the dead characters HAVE to live. would love to see canon with just one thing changed

roommate AU: jon + gerry roommates or gerry + tim or danny or both sound super fun to me!

diverged timeline: could be canon to AU, AU to canon, AU to AU... do whatever your heart desires

amnesia: esp with gerry if he survives!! also very fun with post-circus danny or tim or jon

childhood friends: feel free to go nice + wholesome or really horrific with this one :D

waking up amnesiac: i just think the idea of them all waking up halfway through the journey or after being attacked by the toremi with no idea what's happening or who they are is very fun! especially if for some reason they can't contact the outside world (maybe they just don't know how?). would lovee to see them land on a random planet and have to survive, or just chill on the wayfarer and try to figure out how to fix this

lighthouse keeper/merperson: for rosemary and sissix! i love these types of aus, especially if there's a lot of drama! i can see rosemary taking the job to avoid her family's reputation and get far away. that loneliness would be very fun to play with when it comes to sissix! how do they meet? how does the relationship develop? many options here

sci-fi horror or gladiator: would love to see characters trying to survive an awful scenario of your choosing out in space! having to fight each other or teaming up to escape, getting stranded somewhere awful, etc etc go crazy

all the character death averted/replaced/turned to ghost AUs i'm thinking of jane 64, i really like AUs where she lives and i'd like to see the immediate aftermath of that or anything later in the timeline! i'd especially like to see her interacting with blue and sidra later on, and how her relationship with pepper develops. also the angst potential with her being a ghost or 'coming back wrong' is fantastic! i would love to see her have a life-altering injury as part of that survival, whether later in the timeline or right off the bat!

soulmates: i'd like to see this with sidra and her relationships especially. does she even get soulmarks? would they only appear for the other person? how would she feel about that? can the kit somehow get soulmarks, maybe she gets specific sensations to go with that like she does for taste etc?

make it worse: anything really i just like to see characters suffer

a and b meet: i'm thinking of jenks and sidra for this one! i know they interact very briefly but i really really wanted to see them interact for real. i'd love to see this early on in port corial, midway through, or post-canon! very good angst potential and also very good potential for things to go nicely
