2025 Nominations Query Post
Dec. 1st, 2025 08:14 pmHello Hello!
We have some nominations queries! Please let us know within 24 hours about how we might update these tags, so we can get the bulk of tagset cleanup under way!
Relationships and Characters:
- Alan Wake (Video Games)
- Fictional Alex Casey/Fictional Ilmo Koskela (Alan Wake)
- Nominator, we’re not sure that “Fictional Ilmo Koskela” is a canonical character in this game. Can you, or anyone else that’s familiar with this game let us know? Thank you!
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
- 1: Founder Undercover at Starfleet Headquarters as Admiral Leyton Who Transforms into a Bird (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
- Nominator, would you mind if we accepted this as “1: Founder-imposter Admiral Leyton (DS9)” for the sake of making this nomination more succinct?
- Wiedźmin | The Witcher - All Media Types
- Nominator, I’ve heard from you a bit about why you’d prefer All Media Types for this fandom - other people who might request or offer this fandom, would you take this to be “I don’t really care which version of canon I get” ? I’m not inherently opposed to accepting this as it’s own thing outside of the games, show, and books for this year, though I think in future we might want to discuss this a bit more on a future Franchises Post to clarify what we mean, since we use Star Wars - AMT to catch Star Wars inter-canon crossovers. (Though I suppose that might be more of an edge case than anything.)
- 燕云十六声 | Where Winds Meet (Video Game)
- Tags with “Female Shao Dong Jia” - Nominator(s) can you confirm that Shao Dong Jia is the player character or that their gender is customizable in game (and therefore that there’s a corresponding Male Shao Dong Jia)? If there’s only one canonical gender for this character, would it be acceptable to accept these nominations as Shao Dong Jia? Sorry, I wasn’t able to find a character list for this game when investigating!
Freeforms:
- ALL: Alternative Hanahaki AU
- Nominator, we’d prefer a bit more specificity on what kind of alternate hanahaki au you’re looking for, can you update us on what kind of Alternative Hanahaki? (Platonic Hanahaki? Hanahaki where they cough up lizards? Hanahaki that doesn’t kill you? Hanahaki that doesn’t require a confession? Something else entirely?)
- ALL: Bad Guys Win
- Nominator, we have “ALL: The bad guys win/The good guys fail” in the tagset already - is this an acceptable tag, or were you aiming for something slightly different with this nomination? Let us know your thoughts!
- ALL: Different characters get together
- Nominator, we discussed and thought this tag might be a bit confusing esp if you end up requesting canonical ships. This might be something that’s already baked into the ships you request, even if it’s technically an AU. If you were thinking of a more specific scenario/think there’s a way to clarify this that we haven’t thought of, please let us know!
- ALL: Hogwarts AU
- Nominator, we already have “ALL: Harry Potter AU - Hogwarts Setting” in the tagset! Were you thinking of a different kind of Hogwarts AU? Let us know if what’s already in the tagset makes sense for what you’d like to request!
- ALL: Superheroes AU
- Nominator, we already have “ALL: Superhero/Supervillain AU” in the tagset! Let us know if this tag would be what you’re interested in requesting and/or offering, or if there’s a way to clarify that this tag is substantially different!
- White Collar: AU where Neal is not a CI but an indentured slave and Peter and El take him in (with or without smexy tiems).
- Nominator, I appreciate your love for this specific scenario, but we discussed and felt that this might be a bit too much of a “boxing your creator into writing one very specific prompt” situation. Would it be acceptable to you to accept this tag as “White Collar: Neal is an indentured slave AU” ?

If any of the nominators of these rejected tags would like to discuss re: this group being well defined and not more than 6 distinct people (unfortunately, guaranteeing a work will include all the members of a group that’s larger than 6 + anyone else in the nomination already is very difficult even for a 5k event!) please let us know in the next 24-48 hours, and we can add the nomination back in!
Pluribus

Date: 2025-12-02 02:18 am (UTC)1: Founder-Imposter Admiral Leyton (DS9)
is totally fine with me. The bird is the most memorable thing to me, but I don’t think it’s necessary for disambiguation (there aren’t two Founders masquerading as Leyton, one of whom doesn’t turn into a bird).
Alternative Hanahaki: Would “Hanahaki But Coughing Up Something Else” be specific enough? I’m also happy to turn that slot into “Soulmate-Enforcing Amphibious Lizard Offspring (Star Trek: Voyager)” instead.

putting it in as Shao Dong Jia could work as long as the requesters are ready to clarify what presentation they want the character to have.

Date: 2025-12-05 01:48 am (UTC)witcher amt again - skip if you've got your wrangling decided
Date: 2025-12-05 05:41 am (UTC)It appears I think that a large majority of people are tagging AMT and then many are tagging other canons also. that seems to me reflective of the blended way people approach/have approached the fandom and don't consider the potentially contradictory nature of the sources as a problem, most of the time.
Is that sort of what you meant with star wars AMT? Non-contradiction? Like, all the current Disney stuff is in Canon with each other and not really contradictory most of the time, and characters who are clearly the same characters pop in and out of various shows/books/etc?
Then I would say that in a similar way that someone might want to write about Luke's Twins, who exist only in Legends now I believe, having been "de canonized" when Disney bought all the rights... I would say if someone wanted to write for those characters and listed them by name, even if it was in AMT where definitionally they would contradict the rest of the current Star wars Canon... That difference in universe would be pretty obvious to whoever were to select a ship with those characters, since they only exist in that other canon? And so they can safely be nominated under AMT without anyone getting confused I think? (And in that case calling it a crossover might actually imply that they have ported in from a parallel universe, as opposed to being just two characters in the shared Canon.
And if we agree that far, then that is how I would treat ships that are specific to certain witcher cannons and not others, I think. That a lot of the fandom writes in this AMT blended Canon by default and doesn't really think of the characters that come out of disparate cannons as being crossover characters... And then for people who are writing really specific ships that are specific to one cannon or another, I think more often than not that is obvious just by what characters they are including or not including.
Otherwise, the vast majority of characters are similar enough between the different iterations in my opinion that it certainly doesn't bother me that much, with a couple of side same-character-in-name-only exceptions
I think book purists who were in this fandom for years before the rest of the fandom showed up might be the exception to this, but I didn't see anyone nominate for that, which makes sense since they are a much smaller number (being originally a Polish language book series)

Just pute Waffling and musing below this point, don't feel obligated to read
.
I feel that there is a much longer like philosophical discussion here about whether even under one cannon all fandoms can be considered to be the same fandom... As I was thinking about this, I was also thinking about the fact that in other fandoms I'm part of, like for example the stranger things fandom, the way that people writing for The Party, the characters who were all like preteens in the first season and had almost a fully separate plot for most of that season etc, the people that write primarily about those characters and use the older characters more as background, they write the older characters differently than the people who write exclusively about the older teens/new adults, and mostly use the younger generation as background or to fill things out. I'm not sure that a character like Mike Wheeler, who is frequently a protagonist who you are rooting for in what is likely to become a Canon queer ship on the show, in The Party fandom, he's I think written a lot more sympathetically and complexly for example than he is in what was for a while called the "fruity four" or "spicy six" fandom, which was primarily focused on characters who were like 18 19 20 as the main characters, and mostly wrote little brother Mike as pretty flatly annoying and ignorant. So if I write a future fic where Mike gets shipped with a character from the older batch, and that would be a rare ship, would the people trying to write that ship know what kind of characterization I preferred for Mike? When The Party as protagonists and the New Adults as protagonists function I think kind of a lot as parallel but separate fandoms. Same for the adult adults.
And I remember back in teen Wolf fandom when the "Sterek" fandom essentially split off from the rest of the fandom? They were both pulling from the same cannon, but a lot of people who wrote that specific ship were interested in a set of characters that had left the show and were deeply disinterested in the new characters who had been brought onto the show, and you ended up with again very much to like separate but parallel fandoms, who end up developing very different characterizations of different characters from one to the other (specifically Scott McCall, the official main protagonist of the show, was written to do some very controversial things and the way that the people in the "Sterek" fandom harmonized that tended to be either "no he didn't" or fully embracing him as a villain/antihero kind of character, whereas people who were still watching the show and following the "main" fandom, in quotes because I think there were fewer of them than were in the "sterek" fandom, those folks were able to use the Canon justification for why he did those things and instead somewhat villanized characters from the "Sterek" ship etc. and as I recall, that fandom was very much like pick your side, you're either operating in this universe or that universe, and they ended up being really different universes with again really different characterizations and plots even etc.)
Re: witcher amt again - skip if you've got your wrangling decided
Date: 2025-12-05 09:50 pm (UTC)I think we might be talking past each other a bit - I am not in theory opposed to Witcher - AMT, but my main concern is that this is an alternate universe event, and say, for any kind of "Canon Divergence Alternate Universe" both the recipient and the creator has to agree on "what is canon" to be able to build a canon divergence AU. My understanding for Witcher - AMT based on how you've described it is that "what is considered canon" is variable between different authors, which therefore makes it really hard for me to mediate any potential disagreements between recipients and creators on what exactly they're signing up for. Except when I tap the sign and go "well you can get literally any interpretation of this character ever published so, they filled your prompt like you asked even if it's Lego Batman which you've never seen and don't care for." Which might be what you're going for, but again I'm somewhat hesitant to allow that in this event.
To that end, is there a specific version of the Witcher you'd be okay requesting under and then going "feel free to include xyz other interpretations from these other media versions" in your freeform details about?
.
The Star Wars - AMT is specifically for crossovers, such as "Kylo Ren (Sequel Trilogy) & Grogu (The Mandalorian)" and is not really "kind of a melting pot of interpretations across different pieces of media"
Re: witcher amt again - skip if you've got your wrangling decided
Date: 2025-12-06 04:49 am (UTC)I don't consider many characters in larger witcher fandom to be as different between mediums as Lego batman and, like, dark knight batman or anything, so that was not a concern I had, but I definitely was not thinking in terms of "alternate universe: mild divergence" being an expected/valid category basically for this exchange. I can see where, if any or almost any deviation from one specific medium's Canon is considered an AU that's valid to submit for this, then yeah it's problematic to include a fandom where the default in the fandom is already somewhat of an alternate universe on the Canon, by blending sources and using fanon-developed characters.
I definitely just assumed, error on my part, that an exchange like this was shooting for full alternate universes, with either very large changes to Canon or like crossovers essentially or or fusions into other universes, taking place in different eras etc, but I can see where it's hard to draw the line, in either case.
If you feel you need the primary universe to be fully backed by one medium's canon without input from any others, it makes sense to reject almost all of my nominations then and list the remaining under Witcher TV, since that's where another person nominated geralt/jaskier. (You'll want to reject anything that has the character Aiden or Eskel in it, to stick with characters that are introduced only in the TV show, also jaskier/witchers. I think that might just leave geralt/Jaskier/renfri and geralt/renfri as the only ships I nominated that either aren't already under TV or that don't officially contain fannon or non-show characters.)
